QUALITY ASSURANCE & COMPLIANCE

An important mandate for South Africa’s 21 SETAs is the development, quality assurance and compliance of qualifications developed for any particular sector. This mandate is undertaken in close cooperation with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

To achieve this within the water and energy sectors, the EWSETA fulfils two important roles within the qualifications development landscape and these have been outlined below.

Occupational Qualification Development

Occupational Qualification

Is a qualification associated with trade, occupation or profession, resulting from work based learning and consisting of knowledge, practical skills and work experience standards as defined in the Skills Development (Act no. 97 of 1998).

Development Quality Partner (DQP)

Means a body delegated by the QCTO to manage and fund the process of developing specific occupational qualifications.

OCCUPATIONAL QUALIFICATION DEVELOPMENT

The EWSETA has been nominated to be a DQP for the occupational qualifications mentioned below.

  • OC: Water Inspector (Water Data Collector)  – NQF Level 3.
  • OC: Environment Manager (Water Resource Management Practitioner) – NQF Level not confirmed yet.
  • OC: Electrical Substation Operations Manager  – NQF Level not confirmed yet.
  • OC: Electrical Installation Inspector – NQF Level 6.
  • OC: Cable Jointer (Electric Cable Jointer) – NQF Level 4.
  • OC: Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Plant Process Controller  -NQF Level 6.
  • OC: Water Process Controller (Water Works Management Practitioner) – NQF Level 6.
  • OC: Water Process Operator (Industrial Water Operator)  -NQF Level 4.
  • OC: Water Use Specialist NQF 7.

QUALIFICATION ASSESSMENT

Assessment Quality Partner (AQP)

Means a body delegated by the QCTO to develop the assessment instruments manage and fund the external integrated summative assessment of specific NQF registered occupational qualification and part qualifications.

The EWSETA has been nominated to be a AQP for the occupational qualifications mentioned below.

  • Water Plant Operator (Industrial Water Plant Operator) – OFO code 313201.
  • Water Process Controller (Industrial Water Process Controller) – OFO code 313203.
  • Energy Efficiency Technician (Energy Audit Technician) – NQF Level 6
  • Auxiliary Fossil Power Plant Operator – NQF Level 4.
  • Fossil Power Plant Process Controller – NQF Level 6.
  • Hydro Power Plant Process Controller – NQF Level 6.
  • Nuclear Power Plant Process Controller – NQF Level 6.
  • Fossil Power Plant Process Operator – NQF Level 5.
  • Nuclear Power Plant Process Operator – NQF Level 5.
  • Hydro Power Plant Process Operator – NQF Level 5.
