An important mandate for South Africa’s 21 SETAs is the development, quality assurance and compliance of qualifications developed for any particular sector. This mandate is undertaken in close cooperation with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).
To achieve this within the water and energy sectors, the EWSETA fulfils two important roles within the qualifications development landscape and these have been outlined below.
Occupational Qualification Development
Is a qualification associated with trade, occupation or profession, resulting from work based learning and consisting of knowledge, practical skills and work experience standards as defined in the Skills Development (Act no. 97 of 1998).
Development Quality Partner (DQP)
Means a body delegated by the QCTO to manage and fund the process of developing specific occupational qualifications.
