WELCOME TO EWSETA

The Energy & Water Sector Education Training Authority (EWSETA) is a skills development authority serving the energy and water sectors.

SKILLS PLANNING

The role of skills development in addressing South Africa’s triple challenge of poverty, inequality and unemployment requires a coordinated effort involving numerous role players, underpinned by quality research that aims to inform the skills development planning for the sector.

MANDATORY GRANTS

Employers in the energy and water sector who contribute a skills development levy and who have received approval for their annual WSP and ATR are eligible for Mandatory Grant funding.

DISCRETIONARY GRANTS

Discretionary Grant funding is Board approved and subject to stringent assessment of discretionary grant applications received during an approved discretionary grant application window.

LEARNING PROGRAMMES

Learning programmes are funded by the EWSETA in accordance with skills development priorities as defined in the EWSETA Sector Skills Plan which is reviewed annually.

ENERGY

The challenges of the energy sector associated with a growing population, delays in infrastructure projects, as well as inadequate investment in maintenance and refurbishment position effective skills development as a key growth driver for the sector.

WATER

South Africa’s low annual rainfall, ageing water infrastructure, shortage of technical water skills and increased demand means that now more than ever, skills in the water sector are critical to the country’s future water supply.

SUSTAINABILITY

South Africa’s energy challenges and government support for independent power producers has resulted in remarkable growth in the renewable energy sector that presents numerous opportunities for skills development.
