Whilst South Africa’s skills development drive serves to address youth unemployment and ensure that the country’s skills needs are met, it is important that the quality of skills development meets specific standards. South Africa’s SETAs, in collaboration with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), are mandated to ensure that the quality of training service providers and host employer workplaces meet specific and pre-determined criteria. The EWSETA’s Quality Assurance and Compliance (QA&C) division is tasked with quality assurance of skills development providers, workplace approvals, skills programme certification, qualifications and assessment tools, as well as blueprint developments. The QA&C division works closely with SAQA and the QCTO in delivering on the skills mandate within the energy and water sector.
